Wytham Lane is founded by Dr. Faizzan Syed Ahmad, whose work has spanned stem cell research, cardiovascular pharmacology, biotechnology equity analysis, early-stage venture investing and company building across the United States, Europe and the Gulf.
Why I am building Wytham Lane
I began my career in the laboratory, working on stem cells and cardiovascular biology, and later moved into biotechnology investing and company formation. That journey changed how I look at scientific progress. A discovery can be extraordinary and still fail to become a useful medicine, service or technology. Making that transition requires difficult choices about evidence, people, capital and execution.
Wytham Lane starts in the fields I know best, longevity and regenerative medicine, but the ambition behind it is broader. I want to build an institution that can follow fundamental science across disciplines, remain intellectually honest about what works, and contribute to advances whose value reaches well beyond our own investment horizon.

From the bench to the boardroom
Faizzan earned a DPhil at the University of Oxford in cardiovascular pharmacology and stem cell biology, training under Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, Professor Ming Lei and Professor Derek A. Terrar, where his research involved making human heart cells from induced pluripotent stem cells and studying their function. He subsequently worked in biotechnology equity research covering cell and gene therapy, and served as Investment Director at Cambrian BioPharma, where he evaluated and helped finance emerging therapeutic platforms from seed through Series B and held biotech board roles. His work has returned repeatedly to a central question: how to make important science investable, testable and useful.
